is there anyone familiar with it that could fill out the story a bit?

4. Mark Warner hasn't said what he will do

when he leaves office of Gov. in Jan '06. There is much speculation that the will run for Senate or President. I would certainly like for him to defeat G. Allen - hideous repug senator we are stuck with.

He'd provide a far more valuable service knocking Allen out of the Senate and thwarting his presidential ambitions than running an uphill presidential race of his own in 08.

5. Don't know much about George Allen, but I saw him on the Today

Show discussing the Bolton nomination, and I was not impressed. I especially didn't like it when he told Chris Dodd something like it was nice that he wasn't doing the usual Dem whining. Wish I could remember the exact quote, but there was just something smug about him.

there's nothing to be impressed by. Allen is an empty suit with a smug smile. Typical right wing conservative right to life Repug who has nothing of any import to add to the conversation.

7. Here's some background info on Allen:

He grew up in Southern California. Moved to Virginia in the early 70's when his father became coach of the Redskins. Has had a lifelong love affair with the Confederacy, dating back to his days as a high school student in Palos Verdes, CA where he is best remembered for having vandalized the school with racist graffiti. (I went to high school with him.) Old habits apparently die hard. It is well documented that his living room decor in Virginia included a Confederate flag over the couch, and he kept a hangman's noose in his law office. Another "family values" repuke who has a divorce in his past, votes the party line, and is making exploratory trips to New Hampshire already.
