GOP pays tribute to Pat Robertson (VaPilot Opinion)
( I posted this in GD-P too, but I think they're too busy bitching about 2008 threads, nobody noticed?)

Transportation in Hampton Roads is a festival of confusion and delays. There’s far too little money in the pipeline and there won’t be much anytime soon.

Unless, apparently, you’re the well-wired face of the religious right named Pat Robertson, a man to whom the Republican Party is much beholden. Then, you get not one, but two exits serving your empire near the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach line.

Just as well, since there are apparently two sets of rules in Washington: the set by which everyone operates, and the set by which the GOP rewards its friends.

Thanks to the work of U.S. Sen. George Allen, as well as U.S. Reps. Thelma Drake and J. Randy Forbes, the new $286 billion transportation bill includes a particularly curious $10.8 million for an I-64 exit leading to City Line Road, which doesn’t exist.

====================
Yes I live here, and near CBN. This is the most SHOCKING NEWS this area has received since the BRAC put our master jet base (Oceana NAS) on their hit list...just two weeks ago! (Funny, lots of photo ops on the local front pages and evening news now for the above mentioned "reps")....argghhhhhh.

On the upside, this news may also help Virginia go Blue in 2005 (gov race), 2006 (possible George Allen-Mark Warner Senate smackdown), also my district rep, Thelma's being challenged by an Iraq, USMC vet, David Ashe,who was swift boated by her with GOP money in 2004).

1. Make sure you contact the DNC about Ashe. I know they'll help him.
Even though they already know about Warner and Allen, mention them too!

2006 is going to be tough because there are so many races!

2. W and Robertson worship Manna
Maybe the good Southern people will realize this and turn away from this brand of Christianity.

4. An exit for WHAT??
I travel either 64 or 664 to work every day depending on whether I am going to the base or to Northrup Grumman, and my motorcycle seems to catch EVERY chunk of missing concrete and every damned frost heave that VDOT won't fix until they are bad enough to overturn tractor-trailers. So Robertson gets MORE pork???

5. Between Indian River and Greenbrier exits on 64
CBN wants to expand, so they gave Pat 10 million for his $16,000 donation to GOP candidates!
