Virginia Dems: Do you think Warner would be a good president? |
|
I find Warner very intriguing, but all I know about him are surface details. Electability aside, do you think he would make a good president?

He is very smart. Although he is a centrist he believes in public investment in education, transportation, infrastructure, and other progressive issues.
I think he would be a great president.

I saw him here in Des Moines for the national governor's conference and on Iowa Press (public tv political show) and I was very impressed. I think he may be the one who could be the anti-Hillary in 2008.
I think we have such a great bench for 2008 and beyond. I don't see much of a bench on the other side, but I certainly never thought Dubya could win in 2000. Oh wait, he didn't.

Warner did a good job as Governor, but he hasn't really pushed many liberal ideals. I believe He'd help the economic situation and get spending under control. Both are good starts, but I'd hope for more from a Democratic president.

4. Warner has great appeal |
|
I live in northern Virginia and have seen Warner up close and personal both as a citizen and as part of my job in DC where I occasionally interact with governors.
He's a pragmatic centrist with a business background -- and can appeal to Republican and Independent voters as well as Democrats. He even watches NASCAR -- and I have heard him say he really likes it and doesn't just fly in, dress up for a photo op and then fly out, like our current "leader."
He made his millions in venture capital, and often in speeches says "most speakers tell you to turn off your cell phone so they won't hear it ring, but as one of the original founders of NexTel when I hear the ring, I hear 'ca-ching.'"

He's not as liberal as I would like but he would make a fine president. He wouldn't be my first choice though.
