A new Rasmussen poll has Deeds trailing McDonnell 43-39.
On top of that, the Richmond Times Dispatch has endorsed McDonnell for Attorney General.
The importance of Virginia's attorney general makes the role worthy of more than casual attention by the electorate on November 8. The office represents the Commonwealth in legal matters, and ensures the state plays by the rules. It requires an individual of sharp mind and proven legal acumen.
This year's campaign for the office has been civil and issue-based. Both candidates deserve praise for taking the high road. After a long campaign season, the clear advantage belongs to Bob McDonnell.
As a military officer, a prosecutor, and a member of the General Assembly, McDonnell has been a true public servant. During his seven terms in the House of Delegates he led the charge for some of Virginia's most significant legislative progress: parole abolition, welfare-to-work, tougher sentencing for drug crimes, juvenile justice reform, and adding merit to the selection and retention of state judges. McDonnell boasts a legacy of action and results -- qualities essential in the attorney general's office.
His objectives as attorney general include regulatory reform and increased penalties for sexual predators who target children. As a retired military man living in Virginia Beach, he would bring a unique insight to the office of attorney general as Virginia balances the competing goals of saving Oceana for military training and protecting citizens' property rights.
For attorney general -- Bob McDonnell.
