George Allen represents the Bush Admin, not the people of VA.
We need to get this out to anyone who will listen.
George Allen represents the Bush administration in the Senate and not the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

or We only have one senator, because George Allen represents the White House instead of us.

He follows the party spin even when it is NOT what is best for his constituents.

Allen is only using us as a stepping stone to try to attain a higher office. If he can't think for himself in the Senate, how can he handle a higher office? He needs to be retired before he does any damage. We don't need a puppet representing us.

1. In reality, George Allen has one agenda only.
George Allen.

3. In order to promote himself, he has
latched on to become a mouthpiece for the Bush White House.

I don't think we will ever see him stand up for us, the people of Virginia if it means opposing the George Bush neo-con agenda.

Allen wants the neo-cons to put him up as the next puppet president. He will say anything or do anything to please them and show them that he is their loyal lapdog.

2. That's a very effective argument
and there is plenty of footage to prove this repeatedly.

4. A DU member wrote a post about him a month or so ago ...
That individual grew up in the Calif. town where George Allen went to high school - (of course, you know Allen always tries to pass himself off as a "Virginian" - the only way you become a "Virginian" is to be born here - I know, I'm not a "Virginian" myself). Anyway, apparently Allen was notorious during his HS years as being an open racial bigot. I don't know how he's managed to wallpaper over that in the ensuing time, but politics is strange stuff, isn't it.

5. I heard the racist thing from two separate sources.
One source was here on DU. One of Allen's classmates told me about his high school effort to cause a racial incident. He also mentioned that Allen decorated his room and car with Confederate flags. Kinda weird for a California boy to do that. I wonder where he got them out there.

The other source is a person I know here, in Virginia, who was a grade or two older than Allen but she had a younger brother who was also in the same school when Allen pulled his prank.

Because he was a jock and because his father was a well known coach, he got off easy.

PS: I think they are giving exemptions on the requirements for being a "Virginian". Neither Tim Kaine nor Mark Warner were born here. I won't tell if you won't tell. I am surprised Kilgore didn't make an issue out of that. He could have said, "Who do you want to lead Virginia, a native son or a carpet bagger." It may have made a difference with some of the older voters.
I wasn't born here either, but I think I was grandfathered in because several generations of my family before me were born here and I moved here when I was four years old.

7. Like you, I'm basically a family "returner" too.
And technically speaking, Kilgore wasn't born in VA either. There isn't a hospital in Gate City (his hometown) - his mother had to go across the line to Tennessee to the hospital for his delivery. The devil is in the details, ain't it!!!!

18. I'm the DUer who went to high school with Allen.
I hope Dems will turn out at his campaign stops in Virginia and try to hold him accountable for his racist past. Write letters to the local papers, too. Hold his feet to the fire about the racist graffiti, the noose he had in his law office, and the big Confederate flag he used as living room decor.

I've been in touch recently with a reporter from Virginia who has written about Allen and racism. I sent him many pictures from the high school yearbook and provided names of faculty members and students who knew him well. He's planning an in-depth profile as the campaign season heats up.

He's really got to go.

8. amen to that!
That has been my observation for some time now, that Allen can't think for himself. He is cut from the same mold as our somewhat newly elected Senator Burr here in North Carolina. Both will pull the party line in just about everything and both have difficulty talking about issues without a bag of canned responses. It's just sad!

When I still lived in Virginia, I actually voted for Allen when he ran for governor! My excuses are that he hailed from my home district and that, being right out of high school and not knowing the issues, I voted like most people around me.

9. Welcome to DU, left of center!
:hi: I'm glad your outlook has changed since your vote for Allen! Ronald Reagan made me a democrat.

11. thanks for the welcome
In what way did Reagan move you into the Democratic column?

Most of my family and neighbors praised Reagan. The only people I knew who did otherwise were my paternal grandparents. My grandfather really didn't like him. He would frequently complain about Reagan's deficit spending, labor policies, and support of free trade.

12. I was raised in a Republican family.
I went to college and the democrats were still "the other". In grad school I began to realize that what Reagan said did not add up. I got under the style and saw the lack of substance. I was galled and embarrassed and I no longer trusted him. I voted for Mondale and I never went back. I still have my Ronald Reagan Countdown Calendar that ran through Inauguration Day 1988.

I'm even hoping Potts challenges him and forces a primary?

14. go Potts
I'd like to see Russ Potts go further. He is from my home town. My wife and I voted for him some years back in the Republican primary when he was being challenged by the far right. We wanted him in there because he was a centrist. He still is, but appears to have since shifted somewhat to the left.

15. IMO--He's an embarassment
He's always got that stupid smirk plastered over his face (sound familiar?), spewing fake BS right-wing talking points all over the Sunday talk shows. If I have to live with a Repub Senator, I can live with Warner most of the time, but Allen just makes my blood pressure rise to dangerous levels. I agree, get him the hell out of here, whatever it takes.
