Virginia Needs Gilmore Back
Editor, Times-Dispatch: The previous Governor's administration bad-mouthed Jim Gilmore about how he left the state financially. Gilmore's car tax cut was supposedly bad for the state.
As a result, Mark Warner spearheaded a huge tax increase that resulted in unnecessary revenue surpluses.

Now Governor Kaine wants to raise taxes again. They are both just the same old tax-and-spend Democrats found around the country.

As far as I am concerned, the best thing that could happen for the Commonwealth would be to have Gilmore back in office. James C. Moler. jetersville.

1. Bah, Gilmore bankrupted VA using political gimmicks.
Why do people have such short memory?

4. I love how all they know is "HE RAISED TAXES"
Did he raise YOUR taxes?

They are starting this all over. Kaine and the Republican GA both have plans to raise gas tax etc. for roads but the message has been sent out to complain about the first thing KAINE wanting to do is RAISE TAXES.

Apparently as long as you don't raise taxes any and every other thing is just a-okay. Morons.

2. I thought his town said "jesterville" at first read -
It fits! I've got a couple of neighbors who feel the same way - just MEpublicans who don't care about anyone but themselves.

3. Gilmore has actually been mentioned for several posts
Gilmore was supposedly one of the front runners for Homeland Security...seriously look it up.

Yep our own little Frank Burns (complete with the adultry) sure did almost get a seat at the big table. Boy would that have been embarassing.

I used to work for a guy who had to leave a company meeting to host a dinner for Gilmore, Poppa Bush, and W...this was before W was declared a candidate for POTUS.

5. I remember - he's always lurking in the wings...
Wasn't he also in the running for head of the RNC at one point?

7. He got elected to get rid of the car tax -
I was living in NOVA and that was the only reason I ever heard to vote for him. Even after the state started running out of money, people would say "at least I'm not paying car tax!"

8. That shows how gullible voters can be when they start being selfish.
Especially when it comes to one-syllable bumper-sticker campaigns. Everybody who owned a car worth $25K or more was still paying the tax, and the phase-out on the levies on cars worth less than that didn't start until two years into Gilmore's term.

9. Try explaining that to some of these folks though -
I'm back in school and am doing a presentation on critical thinking - THAT'S part of what's missing with these me-firsters.

11. Ask them if they expect Sears to sell them that new refrigerator
they need, for $0.

These same people want police protection, fire protection, schools (and they usually have had at least a few kids for which others of us are paying taxes), roads, etc., but somehow believe there is a free lunch when it comes to public services.
