Moving to Harrisonburg this summer |
|
Edited on Thu May-11-06 12:29 AM by Piltdown13
Hi folks! :hi:
I'm going to be moving to Harrisonburg later this summer to begin a faculty job at James Madison. At this point, it's only for a year, so I need to rent an apartment or other housing (hopefully two bedrooms, no roommates) starting in August. Do y'all have any suggestions for places to live, places to avoid, etc.? I'm totally open to a short (~20 minutes or less) commute if it means more reasonable rent. I understand that the smaller, outlying communities are cheaper than Harrisonburg proper, but I can't find anything at all in terms of listings on the web, and I'm hoping to be as prepared as possible when I come out to actually rent a place in June. EDIT: I'd also love to hear recommendations on how much time it might take to find something -- trying to figure out how long I need to allow for my visit in June.
Thanks so much!

1. Are you moving from Indiana |
|
or are you already here? It would help to know which end of Harrisonburg you're coming from. I have friends in Page County that know lots of stuff. That's about 20 minutes from Harrisonburg. I'm sure rent's cheaper there too. I live across the mountain, but I went to school over there.

2. I'm moving sometime early-mid August |

but planning to fly out to find a place mid-June. Unfortunately, pretty much all of the housing info JMU has is either intended for students or aimed at faculty/staff looking to buy, so I very much appreciate any and all help!
