James Webb and Harris Miller debated and argued on WVEC-TV's On The Record.
Miller, a former technology industry lobbyist, and Webb, a former Marine who served as president Reagan's Navy secretary, squared off during the taping for a Sunday morning public-affairs program on WVEC-TV 13 in Norfolk. They're competing in the June 13th Democratic primary for the right to challenge Republican Senator George Allen's bid for a second term.
The intense argument began about ten minutes into the program when Miller asked Webb why he had endorsed Allen six years ago over former Democratic Senator Chuck Robb.
Webb fired right back at Miller, saying he had admitted his mistake in endorsing Allen four years ago. He noted that most of Robb's top former aides last week endorsed him, then skewered Miller about why Miller had contributed to the campaigns of at least three Republicans, including House speaker Dennis Hastert.
The spat continued as Miller rattled off a long list of Democratic Virginia state legislators who had endorsed him while Webb countered that at least five prominent Democratic U-S senators are supporting him.
Miller shot back, "They don't live in Virginia." Webb responded by saying that organized labor had labeled Miller as "the anti-Christ of outsourcing."
