Oil Profits while People Owe - my letter to Tom Davis |
|
Dear Mr. Davis,
I am writing to you regarding the current oil crisis. You might think crisis is a strong word, as a wealthy man you are well able to afford the price of gas these days, but I'm sure some of your staffers would agree that a working person has a really tough time getting by with the current expense of traveling to and from a job, running essential errands, etc.
People inside the Beltway can take the metro anywhere, but people in your district don't all have that option. The commuter train is even more expensive than driving (why is that so?) and the bus doesn't go from Prince William County to Alexandria, Va. With the oil companies receiving record profit and this latest farse of a disaster from BP, people are starting to feel that the oil companies are a load of crooks who are working to keep oil prices artificially high. I must ask you, are the Republicans who control our government in cohoots with them? Are we in Iraq as well so the oil companies can keep oil prices artificially high?
Sincerely,
