The worst Allen attack ad yet?
I just want to slap the high-and-mighty dishonest smirk off "Janice Buxbaum". Please see my thread on this:

1. Oh-- His Tax Lies? That Ole Beaten Lie......
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 10:21 PM by LetsThink
.....Just shows how desperate Allen has become.

Allen has voted against extending tax cuts for the middle class: the tuition tax deduction, retirement savers' tax credits, educators expenses tax deduction.

Allen wants to increase taxes on transportation and gas, lower taxes on large companies and on oil companies in particular. Oil companies have given Allen $800,000 in campaign contributions.

Webb has never proposed increasing taxes on the middle class.

Webb supports increasing the estate tax exemption to $5 million.
Webb supports extending the child tax credit and extending the marriage penalty relief.
Webb supports raising taxes on the richest 1% -- but not on the struggling middle class.
Webb supports tax breaks for veterans.

2. The Ads Are Going to Hurt Him Like they Did Kilgore
When I was out canvassing on election day, I met a number of repukes who voted for Kaine only because of the negative ads Kilgore put out.

People are beginning to realize Allen is running attack ads because he can't run an ad with anything positive. Supporting Bush 97% of the time isn't going to fly nowadays. Poor baby.:sarcasm:

3. Wondering if Bush May Have Become Separated from.......
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 01:04 AM by LetsThink
.....his conservative base by his responses on the Foley, Hastert and N.Korean developments. That Bush has seemingly gone out of his way to support Hastert-- whose leadership has amounted to a bunch of empty words on the Foley issue-- makes both the Pres and Hastert look like they are covering for Foley (opinion). Personally, I don't get the attitude -- how can they pretend to care about children, look the other way as they are put in peril and still hope to go back to their conservative 'believers' for support? I mean-- they're going to pretend the whole group of issues surrounding homosexuality aren't part of the political landscape for their base? Isn't the Episcopal church near a split over one of the related bits here?..... And, that's not the most conservative of the bunch.

Someone wrote of a forthcoming book which portrays Bush in private exchanges calling Evangelicals names. The title was not part of the original post. Anyone with knowledge of the book? I'd like to place an order for copies to be delivered to all major Evangelical church leaders........

7. I sure do hope you're right abluelady!!!
It pains me to see Allen make such a nincompoop of himself on Capitol Hill - I always think to myself that I hope most of the country doesn't think he's a typical Virginian, despite the fact that he tries to imply that he is.

4. Conservative Values at Work...........?? Allen's FRIENDS!
Look at just these 3 developments:

1)Bush Joins Hastert at Rally, and Lavishes the Praise
By JIM RUTENBERG
President Bush came to the home turf of the House speaker, J. Dennis Hastert, to give him a resounding pledge of support.

2)Ex-Aide to Foley Testifies of Warning Speaker's Office
By JEFF ZELENY
A longtime aide to former Representative Mark Foley testified before the House ethics committee that he warned Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's office at least three years ago about Mr. Foley's behavior.

3)Report Says Nonprofits Sold Influence to Abramoff

By James V. Grimaldi and Susan Schmidt
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, October 13, 2006; 1:32 AM

Five conservative nonprofit organizations, including one run by prominent Republican Grover Norquist, "appear to have perpetrated a fraud" on taxpayers by selling their clout to lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Senate investigators said in a report issued yesterday. Shortcut to:

5. Ethics ARE Important, Mr. Allen.................
OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR ALLEN

Dear Senator Allen:

While preparing dinner last night, I was really outraged to see your campaign ad on my local news station; the one which took Secretary Webb’s comments completely out of context. The ad’s effect was to present an opinion entirely opposite of that held by Mr. Webb, whose comments were made during a debate in Richmond Virginia earlier this month.

Mr. Webb is AGAINST higher taxes on the middle class and others in lower income brackets. He believes we can make up revenue gaps by closing loopholes for big business. Mr. Allen, your ad is a vicious approach to campaigning, which really does not help your campaign or the voting public. But you already know this.

To serve in the U.S. Senate, one qualification all voters should require of candidates is that they are a beacon of truth and honesty. Mr. Allen, the office of a Senator is, above all, one of public trust. The officeholder has a duty to the citizens who elected him; a duty requiring an ethical standard above reproach.

Actions on the campaign trail are a great indicator of what voters can expect of the candidate, should he be elected. So, I ask you, Mr. Allen, is your ad really the message you want to send?

Please withdraw your vicious ad, misrepresenting Secretary Webb’s stance on taxes. It reflects badly on your stature as a current U.S. Senator and sends entirely the wrong message about power and politics in Washington, especially given the backdrop of current Washington events.

6. League of Women Voters Requests Removal of Ad.......
Dear Senator Allen:

The Virginia League of Women Voters has requested you remove the ad in which you use debate material out of context to attack a decorated veteran of our American Armed Forces, a former Navy Secretary.
Why have you refused to pull the ad or to at least remove their debate material, as the League has requested?

Your reply to one news site states that your opponents campaign listed a link to the debate footage before your decision to use the material. Where is the link? I have searched and can not find this link.

Mr. Allen, the League of Women Voters, of which I am not a member, is a non-partisan institution which promotes the cause of informing the general voter public. I am a member of your constituency here in Virginia and a prime issue for me is honesty in campaigning. Why not discuss the issues? Honest and forthright discussion of the issues informs voters and furthers the policy process.

Mr. Allen: Do your ads meet these standards? Are they honest, ethical and forthright on where you stand on issues important to voters ?
