VA-10...Just got back from the Frank Wolf - Judy Feder Debate |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 08:54 PM by SaveElmer
Feder is quite a sparkplug. Absolutely knocked the shit out of a question on Iraq and Wolfs "bi-partisan" Iraq study group. Wolf emphasized the need for new ideas on Iraq, and formed the commission to find folks who would put country above party. Feder simply asked isn't Congress suppposed to put country above party. Why do we need a commission to do something Wolf and his compatriots should be doing? I am not doing justice to the answer, she really set Wolf back on his heels!
On virtually every issue Feder clearly had a more well though out answer. Wolf, for the most part relied on name-dropping and listing the pork-barrel projects he has secured.
The only thing Feder said that might haven fallen a bit flat on was her support of Bush's original immigration plan. She was also a bit strident trying to take advantage of the Foley mess. A little more subtlety there might have been better.
The room clearly had more Feder supporters. For some reason Wolf supporters simply could not follow the rules, constantly talking and chattering during the whole debate and ignoring admonishments on inappropriate displays. I finally had to turn around and ask the people behind me to shut up.
What is it about Republicans and their inability to follow the rules?
Overall a clear win for Feder. I don't know if she will pull it off. Wolf has been around for a long time...but she is really giving him a run for his money!

3. Getting to this late, but I was at the debate too! It was worthwhile. |

Judy did a good job - and the high point was that point you mentioned about our congressional reps supposed to be putting country above party all the time. These repuke idiots are so accustomed to acting with conflicts of interest that the idea of acting in the citizens' best interest is getting to be radical. Wolf looked deadened... Judy would be such a great replacement for him in Congress.
