Weather, runners, volunteers, and politicos all conspired to give Charlottesville a great rally-the-troops campaign event this morning: the Democrats Take Back America 4-miler. It was a benefit race for the local Democratic organization and a chance to get the word out about the importance of the last four weeks to the Kerry-Edwards campaign and Al Weed's 5th District race. Al spoke to the crowd at a rally after the race, along with VA state senator Creigh Deeds and special guest Governor Warner. Something like 200 runners and walkers signed up, and adding the volunteers and people who came just for the rally it was a good big crowd. Local political blogger extraordinaire George Loper was there and will no doubt have photos up on
his website before long.
If Kerry or Edwards came to C'ville with the mood the locals are in these days, they could do a Dave Matthews and fill the football stadium.
