Trader Joe's coming to Richmond (Short Pump) this year!
Story in today's times-dispatch:

http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/search.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-02-06-0053.html

"A 12,500-square-foot store is planned for the Short Pump Station shopping center. The center is next to West Broad Village, where a Whole Foods Market is set to open and across from Tom Leonard's Farmer's Market. Within a half-mile of the store are Kroger and Ukrop's locations.

The California-based chain has not set an opening date, but Trader Joe's spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said yesterday that it would open sometime this summer or early fall."

Hooray - no more driving to Newport News once in a blue moon and hoarding all my TJ's stuff!

1. That's Not All
We're also getting a Whle Foods supermarket. Richmond has sure grown since we came here back in the '70's! I can't wait. I just wish they would do something about the traffic in that part of town!

2. "Whole Paycheck" doesn't interest me as much as TJs
I had one near my house in northern va and it's pricey. Still, it will be nice to have one closer than 100 miles. Having both stores in one shopping center will be nice.

Unfortunately, Short Pump is being allowed to be developed like Tyson's Corner was - build, build, build - and infrastructure comes last...

3. I Like Having Choices
I have found items at Whole Foods that I haven't seen elsewhere and while I won't do my weekly shopping there, it will be fun to browse. I agree TJ's prices are way better!

4. My mom who lives in Hampton Roads told me that someone
at the Trader Joe's she goes to told her the store was coming to Richmond. I hear it's a really nice store.

8. Choices are good - may lead to some interesting competition
in the local grocery market...

But TJs - I can do most of my weekly shopping there...

5. There is also a Fresh Market on Parham
I was accurately warned to know exactly what I was going in there for or I would end up spending $50 at least.

7. I live really close to that Fresh Market and have only been twice -
it's way too expensive for my daily shopping...although for specialty items it's good. I work with an english guy who says that the scones taste just like what he ate as a child...
