Illegal polling place activities? |
|
I'm visting my sister in Richmond and she had an interesting report from her polling location on Tuesday. A man walked up to her and thanked her for coming out to vote and asked if she would like a copy of the ballot to think about while she waited in line. She said "sure". It was ALL Repuke candidates. No other names on it. Just the 'cons. I asked if she brought it home, but she said she stashed it in the circular file. She voted the correct way :), but to no avail.
But I ask, this is illegal, isn't it?

And it probably said "Republican Sample Ballot" on it. We had people handing those out at my polling place also, but a few feet away from them were some other folks handing out the "Democratic Sample Ballot". I don't think there's anything wrong with them. If only the Republicans were handing out the sample ballots (which has happened at least one year at my polling place), I could use it to know how NOT to vote if I wasn't very informed about the candidates. On a year like this year, they're not too useful since the ballot will identify the party anyway, for those people that only vote a straight ticket. Sometimes there are ballot initiatives that maybe didn't get too much press, and it's useful to see on the Democratic Sample Ballot which side of the issue the party is supporting.
