CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Virginia is reporting a record 22,396 applications for the class of 2014.
U.Va.'s dean of admissions, Gregory Roberts, said when all the applications are received, he expects they will represent an increase of 3 percent to 4 percent over last year's total.
Roberts said the application uptick reflects what he says are more struggling families looking for educational bargains. He cited the Charlottesville school's two-year claim on the No. 1 ranking as a "best value" among public colleges and universities.
That honor is according to the Princeton Review.
