4. New to area
Please forgive me for any assumptions, but can I take from your username that you either live in or near that bastion of progressiveness called Midlothian?...I've been here for approx. 6 months and my forays back and forth to the DC area are becoming tiring but I have been not been able to find any open minded independents or like minded progressives...its bordering on ridiculous the conservative conformity down here...any suggestions...

6. Welcome to the Richmond Area
There really are some progressives here. You might want to check the Meet Up site. I know there is a group that meets every Sunday to discuss "The Nation." I haven't been able to get there, but it could be a good start.

10. Hey.
I guess you will know about the same time I do. You will come to understand Midlothian is as ancient as the name implies.

I've been here for seventeen years and still don't have a green card. LOL

11. Outwardly Hiding Disdain....
I was in the military , and I've visited lots of areas in the country that would be considered rural/country,but Midlothian has a strange, redneck energy I've never experienced...its hard to explain..... I thought that since it was so close to Richmond it would be a tad bit more , shall we say, open, but every where I go , and maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm inundated with hillbilly relativism....

12. In case you don't know...
The county stayed red in the 2008 election. You're not paranoid.

After a while, you won't even notice the jacked up late 80's pick ups with the confederate flag in the back window.

And NASCAR is a religious avocation under Southern Baptist rules.

You will need to know some driver's names. If you don't know any, just say Mark Martin. And you're good.

The first Saturday night of May is a religious holiday. That's the Richmond Race. It is called the Race.

Very important! Everybody hates Jeff Gordon. Except for the folks who work for DuPont.

13. NASCAR bonafides...
Funny you should mention NASCAR, I was in a grocery line the other day and a gent behind me struck up a conversation referencing "Lil E" and a race the previous week....to my astonishment and without any help whatsoever, I instantly recognized that as a certain Dale Earnhardt Jr.and I was enthralled for , oh 10 seconds, before my eyes focused on the spittle on the side of his mouth as he went into overdrive about the coming weeks races...since I'm an avowed free speech advocate, the confederate flag stuff is more of an irritant on the level of a mosquito than a full fledge nuisance....I notice, however, the hooples don't have a problem expressing outward disdain or staring when I wear a t-shirt with the words "Proud Progressive" or "Eff Fox"....

me in any meetings you might arrange. I've been here 18 years and I still feel like I'm totally on an alien planet.

However, if you losers continue to make fun of Midlothian? I won't tell you where/when.

I'll keep the rest of you posted.
