Martinsville's unemployment rate remained highest in Virginia in MarchRICHMOND, Va. — The city of Martinsville’s jobless rate remained the highest in Virginia in March.
The Virginia Employment Commission says the city’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate was 17.8 percent, up slightly from February and lower than 20.7 percent for the same month last year. That compares with the statewide average rate of 6.3 percent for the month.

Northern Virginia’s Arlington County had the state’s lowest jobless rate with 3.9 percent.
The Danville region led Virginia’s metropolitan regions with an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent.
