Kilgore assembles election team
Most of those named helped in his 2001 run for attorney general

BY TYLER WHITLEY
TIMES-DISPATCH STAFF WRITER Dec 2, 2004

Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore announced a team of veteran Republican political strategists yesterday as he took a step closer to his actual run for governor.

Kilgore said he will file papers with the State Board of Elections to set up a gubernatorial candidate committee on Jan. 3. He will formally announce his candidacy later in 2005.

As his predecessors have done, Kilgore is expected to resign as attorney general soon after the formal announcement.

Most of the strategists are Virginia campaign veterans who helped Kilgore win the race for attorney general in 2001.

3. This will be a good test of Waner's abilities.
There are many who want to annoint him as the next Bill Clinton for 2004. LEt's see if he can at least hold his state first.

4. Kilgore is vulnerable
Kilgore is vulnerable as he has little to show for his time as AG.

He took $1m from Clariol for spousal abuse and then tasked state licensed beauticians and nail techs to encourage clients they suspect of being abused to go to shelters...DUDAH?

He filed price fixing case and got thousands of CDs that he's been going around the state distributing on a "listening tour"....

Kilgore's office has filed fair housing complaints with little or no investigation because they got money from HUD. Complaintants are unhappy with the complaint process through the state FH office which has been in termoil itself.

Kaine was mayor of Richmond and found financing to keep chicken processing plant in the valley open and allow 100 employees to buy it and keep their jobs.
