Today in PNW History - forced labor of the homeless |
|
Homelessa pnw history class, came across this
“Homeless men in King County were rounded up and incarcerated during the first week of 1900, and then forced to work on chain gangs. Three decades later, a young Warren G. Magnuson advocated less harsh methods of treating the poor when he launched the drive to assist Washington's unemployed on January 9, 1933, his first day in the State Legislature”.
Bless Warren G Magnuson
Although on a less serious note, it is hard for me to imagine a "young Warren G Magnuson" RIP :):):)
