| Please call Senator Byrd's office ASAP...I did. |
|
In response to this email.
It's coming down to the line. The decision on whether or not Joe Lieberman will retain his committee chairmanship will be made this week by the 19 members of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee - one of whom is Senator Robert Byrd.
This is our chance to take the gavel out of the hands of a man who hasn't used his power of subpoena once to investigate Bush and his cronies' abuses of power, actively campaigned for McCain, and - if left has Homeland Security Committee Chair - would have subpoena power over Barack Obama.
Please call right now and ask that he be removed from this dangerous position before the next congress.
Robert Byrd - (D - WV) (202) 224-3954
We've had more than 30,000 signatures on our petition to the committee asking them to take away Lieberman's gavel. But with the decision coming this week, phone calls directly to committee members is our only way to sway the vote. Please take action right now, and ensure that someone with sound judgment is chair of the Homeland Security Committee in the 111th Congress.
Thank you,
Jane Hamsher, Firedoglake Action

| 2. Hell of a lot of good that did. |

Byrd gets dumped as chairman of the appropriations committee because he got old. But Benedict Lieberman cruises into the 111th Congress with nary a scratch.
Might be a little harder to get the base to turn out two years from now.

| 4. I have just learned that... |

Senators are generally inclined to empathize with other Senators much more than they should, kind of like CEOs in their exclusive club of interlocking BODs. This helps explain the way the DSCC often spends a million dollars and more to ensure an incumbent is 100% certain to be reelected, but not so much money to try and pick up a seat from the GOP.
Our own Senator Byrd is close with convicted felon Ted Stevens because they have one thing in common: Each is the longest serving Senator from their party. After this I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen Byrd and a majority of other Senators rally to Stevens' defense if Alaskan voters had not shown him the exit.
I'm sure our two Senators are both sympathetic about how Lieberman's feelings were hurt when they brazenly supported Lamont, the Democratic Party nominee, against him in the 2006 General election. And it is painfully obvious that such feelings outweigh any concerns for the expectations of lifelong Democratic voters from their home state who have repeatedly returned them to office, literally for decades.
I have always been against Congressional term limits but I think I might have changed my mind about that this week.

| 5. Well the democrats put their best foot forward, in their first step off |
|
into the new Obama era and they stepped in shit right off the bat, IMHO.
Joe LIEberman will always be a scumbag in my little book.
The rosegarden democrats are at it again lining up to kisss each other's asses no matter what, like a pack of broke dicked dogs. I guess this means they're all for Joe and Bush's war again now? They're proud again that they voted for Bush's nazified patriot act? Proud of Abu Ghraib? They'd all like to give George a big Joe LIEberman style kiss and hug? Now that the election is over, they can show their true wimpy assed colors again.
