Metro government bill advances, 11-2

Legislation that would give cities and counties the flexibility to consolidate government services received a major endorsement in the Senate Government Organization Committee Monday.

Committee members advanced the metro government bill (SB159) to the full Senate on an 11-2 roll call vote.

Recommended by the Commission on Governing in the 21st Century, the bill would let cities and counties take advantage of economies of scale, as well as the potential for increased federal funding.
