http://www.thenorthwestern.com/article/20090630/OSH0101/90629157/1987/OSHopinionState Rep. John Townsend, R-Fond du Lac, plans to introduce a bill designed to stimulate sales of motorboats - a yearlong moratorium on state sales tax on up to $30,000 of purchases.
"The first practical outboard motor was invented in Wisconsin," Townsend said. "Wisconsin is still the only state where outboard motors are produced.
There’s Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, of course, and there is also the Evinrude plant in Sturtevant, by Racine. This bill would eliminate a significant barrier to motorboat ownership for the next year."
Townsend’s bill offers a one-year moratorium on state sales tax for motorboats, outboard motors and/or trailers.

If you can afford to pay $30,000 for a toy you can afford to pay the tax on it.

| 3. People that propose these sorts of |
|
favors usually leave out the part where someone else has to pick up the slack in the revenue stream. A tax break for them means more tax for someone else unless Townsend has a corresponding cut in spending tied to it.

| 4. Up the road from us is one of the three largest boat makers in the world. (MN) |
|
which has seen a huge lay off twice of staff. They have just declared bankruptcy and are attempting to restructure and are looking into making wind propeller parts since they do fiberglass. Good luck as the whole boat market has tanked.

Why is it pukes think the only way to save a business is to cut taxes? I can't believe these one-hit-wonders can still hold office.
