It is stipulated in the U.S. Declaration of Independence Constitution that our unalienable rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. "Governments are instituted among men deriving their just power from ... the consent of the governed."
Gov. Jim Doyle just signed a bill mandating all Wisconsin public schools must teach the history of labor unions. The people's rights, in my opinion, have been trashed and the governor's oath of office has been breached. The influence of special interest groups are a threat to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Sen. Russ Decker owes a complete explanation of his conduct. I believe the oaths of office for the state and federal government have been breached. Why the national, state and local news media sat on this action makes one wonder. Would the local television stations or the newspapers please tell the public why? Without public support, you are out of business.....
It's about time labor history is taught and while it shouldn't have taken a mandate it did and let's move on from here. There are fewer things in our history that are more important than this so for those who say there is no time in the curriculum for this I say they are wrong. Cut out just about anything from history class and replace it with this important part of history. Yeah, the revolution was important but they could take less time for that easily.
