Latest ploy by our "esteemed" mayor here in Sheboygan... |
|
He has a "disability." I had no idea being a blithering idiot was a disability. :eyes: Dwight Darrow — attorney for embattled Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan — said Friday that Ryan’s drunken misbehavior is not enough to merit his removal and is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act as the product of a recognized disease. http://www.sheboyganpress.com/article/20110917/SHE010103/110916151/Mayor-s-attorney-Ryan-s-alcoholism-protected-under-ADA?odyssey=tab|topnews|img|FRONTPAGE

1. I've been subjected to this ploy before |
|
It's true. ADA does define alcoholism as a disability. I had an employee who would not show up for work for days at a time and when I terminated him, I was charged with violation of the ADA and forced to reinstate him. I ended up terminating him for "unexcused absences" because he didn't call in...this was after I formally and in writing offered him the opportunity to go through EAP (Employee assistance program) and he refused.
An elected official is a different matter. The citizens can remove him without fear.

Is whether the mayor's drinking has intereferred with his job. Since the recall push the story has been on Mil. tv a handful of times and the background isn't filled in on the story very well. The few citizen interviews that have been aired are usually with aldermen or with people filing complaints against him. In the televised parts of those interviews it seems that the reason given for his removal is that having a mayor with an alcohol addiction is bad for the image of the city.
As a townie perhaps you could clear up whether this rhubarb is because of the city's image or because the mayor has failed to perform duties adequately because of his drinking.

3. From my understanding.... |

The public relations type image a mayor brings to a community and for a community is a significant part of the mayor's job. Was John Norquist's affair in Milwaukee shown to have any influence on his work? I wonder what the mayor of Sheboygan earns?

4. As I remember it, Norquist fostered a sexual relationship |

that Figeuroa (sp?) claimed was workplace harrassment which besides being off-task behavior is against the law.
I'm really not sure of the claims against the Sheboygan mayor, which is why I asked. I don't think the size of his compensation is an issue. If his behavior has damaged the city it did it regardless of his salary.

5. His drinking has already cost our city $310,00 |
|
While plowed he made lewd remarks and tried to make a move on a city employee.
The city settled out of court, Ryan never admitting he did anything wrong.
But since he's a republican, that puts him above the rules, I forget. :eyes:
