How do I figure out how much it's costing me to drive my car? |

(cross-post from GD)
A 1996 Subaru is rated at 21 miles per US. Gas costs me 90.6 cents per litre. I'm rounding it to CAN$0.10 per kilometer. Does that sound right?
I should probably also factor in wear-and-tear and risk of accident.
I believe the rates of accidents are on the rise because of cell phones and texting. Two days ago I was downtown approaching the main drag. Everybody knows the main drag has stop lights on every block and the chances of making two lights in a row is zero. I'm stopped waiting for the light. It turns green and traffic starts to move. Four seconds later, some idiot comes into the intersection doing at least the speed limit and T-bones a pickup truck.
Insurance is going to give me about $2000 for my car if written off. $2000 might buy the headlight on a new car or a wreck that I'd have to spend $5000 fixing up.
