... comes the following statement, sent out to media this afternoon, which seems to be a response to the story that appeared on the front page of today's Toronto Star alleging that she had "touted" a green energy firm linked to her husband:

For several months last year the people of Simcoe County, in which I live, were debating and arguing about the merits of opening a new landfill site to accommodate the area's growing waste disposal needs. I was one of those who opposed the new site and argued in favor of a greener alternative.

During this time I was approached by Mr. Jim Wright, who told me that he was one of my constituents, that he had a company that offered a Green solution to waste disposal and asked me to send a letter of introduction to the County. He also told me that he had discussed his company briefly with my husband, who also has an interest in Green projects.
