Anybody following the U.K elections? I'm afraid it may contribute to Laytons growing mental health |

problems. From what I understand, the Liberal Democrats are the UK version of the NDP, a party which historically has never had a chance of forming the government, because all the leftists vote labour (even if they agree with the lib dems on policy), just to prevent the conservatives from getting in. However, after the first prime minster debate in UK election history, the lib dems are now in front of labour in the polls.
I'm thinking this can't be good for Jackie's mental health. He's probably watching the UK elections and imagining himself as prime minister, no matter how deluded that might be. Mark my words, we'll see renewed attacks by the NDP against the liberal party, as their strategy is to destroy the liberal party (even if that means decades of conservative rule), all because of Jackie's delusions of grandeur.

2. Layton's a little long in the tooth compared to Nick Clegg. |

If Jack, with more than seven years as NDP leader, is comparing himself with a counterpart who's been leader of his party for only a little over two years, well, he should take that into account.

3. I am. Clegg won't be PM. |

3 way major split, and there are all the small parties as well.
Lib-Dems are more like our Liberals. Labour is our NDP. Rough equivalent on all of them though. Their Cons and ours are quite different.
I hope it doesn't give Jack ideas. After all these years he should know better. :)

4. Don't insult the NDP... |

We are NOTHING like Lieblair. On civil liberties, military policy, social justice, crime, and immigration we have far more in common with the LibDems then with those Red Fascists.

It took the Liberals a long ass time to recognise that certain groups deserved to be seen as human beings...From None is Too Many, to racist First Nations laws, to stalling on LGBT equality.

But that attitude might explain why the NDP have never been elected.
Tommy Douglas was big on eugenics, so spare us your hindsight morality.

Jack Layton is a lot of things, and has made a lot of mistakes. That said, out of the three leaders of the three main political parties he is the less power hungry. As for Jack Layton becoming PM... you are correct, but he has put the NDP on the map again and saved it from extinction. As well, the goals and ideals of social democrats are being put out to Canadians by a relatively popular politician. As time goes on perhaps more people will feel comfortable voting for social democracy, instead of holding their noses and voting for some else to beat the other guy they really hate.
