Hmm, a Canadian restaurant has opened here in Beijing.... |
|
Haven't been yet. I have no idea what could be on the menu. Anyone?
I have seen Canadian bars in Hong Kong and Seoul. But not here, though a friend of mine from upstate new york and his Irish partner are turning their pub into a Canadian pub because, as they were the only ones showing NHL hockey since ESPN Asia got rid of it, they have more Canadian regulars than anything and have began to import Tim Horton's coffee (Which they can olnly do by asking Canadians going home for a visit to bring shitloads back with them) and thrown poutine on the menu. The guy says he has found a way to import Molson too.
In Seoul there are two, "Beer O'Clock" and the "Rocky Mountain tavern." The latter is great for a busy place busting out hockey on tape dealy so it's on at normal hours, but the former is more real as the owner is from Cape Breton and will sit there getting pissed with you till five am. By that time I was serving HIM drinks. Both are great cause you can order a rye and coke and not get a dumb look. Either way, you can still only seem to get moosehead in Asia.
The one in Hong Kong I've seen is called "the keg" and looks like a Whistler cabin, the whole block is actually owned by a Canuck, "Lao Fai Chung" I believe it's called. They are fun there, but kind of over do it as I was there for world cup and the bar was only showing hockey reruns. A bit contrived.
Cool thing about Hong King, British Columbians, is that there actually are numerous WHITE SPOTS!
