When the 492 Tamil migrants disembarked the MV Sun Sea, their identification documents and belongings were confiscated and stored inside two U-Haul trucks, without any record kept to connect the documents with their owners.

“The process is under way to match the documents with the individuals,” said counsel representing the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) during ongoing Immigration and Refugee Board hearings Wednesday.

The CBSA has confirmed that they have now matched all of the women to their documents, although they have yet to verify their authenticity.

“I am concerned that have, as they did previously, put all of the documents together rather than matching them to the ,” Daniel McLeod, a lawyer for some of the men, said. Mr. McLeod argued that this process is delaying the identification of the men, which is the reason given for their continued detention.
