http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/11/18/peter-mackay-uae.htmlSeems McKay was the only one looking out for the best interest of our soldiers in the Canada/UAE spat. CBC reported that he was in favour of negotiating with the UAE. He obviously saw the value in maintaining the secret base without a cost to Canada, and in strenghtening ties with Canada's largest trading partner in the Middle East. He lost the argument to others in the party (CBC reported that he wore a hat "fly Emirate" to send a message to Baird who apparently was on the other side of the argument) though I am sure those in the military wish he had won in the debate.
It's just my opinion, but he seems to me to be much more levelled headed than most in his party. I hope he lands on his feet in the private sector where negotiating is seen as a necessary and vital component of success and prosperity.
