I saw a Bald Eagle kill a Canada Goose this morning! |
|
How symbolic!!
It happened just after I arrived at work. He was still picking at the viscera as I left work.

3. I hate those damn geese. They no longer migrate. |
|
They just eat and poop. The Columbus Zoo has a dog to keep them on the run.

4. It depends if it was one of the ...... |
|
.... non migratory giants fine ...... but that is how nature works ..... Although in many cases the Bald Eagle will watch an osprey fish and then go and take the fish from the osprey.
Nature is neat but it is bloody too.

5. He probably ate a mouthful of lead pellets too as well as VOCs |
|
Raptors have the highest levels of mercury and lead toxins of all birds.

8. I guess we were hoping for a happier ending. |
|
Like it was an attack, not a kill, with the Canada Goose coming up with some unique, terribly cool defence at the last minute that foiled the eagle's attack.
But alas, the Canada Goose lies dead and eaten.

That's one thing I'd miss if I went back to Ontario. Not as many bald eagles hanging around urban areas there.
On the way to the polling station on Tuesday, I saw a spectacular aerial battle between a crow and a sharp-shinned hawk. I don't think there were any casualties that time, but it was pretty remarkable aerobatics.

11. Well, Canada Geese are pretty oily.... |
|
Actually, they are tough old birds. I read somewhere that they've been spotted flying 25,000'
I remember, many, many moons ago, coming across one that had gotten shot and wounded over our local river...it ended up coming down in town. It appeared to have busted a wing when it hit the ground, but was quite animated and was holding a dog at bay. Police arrived and asked me (I was a kid) to hop the fence and get them the goose. It smacked me with it's good wing pretty hard. I finally managed to get it over the fence to the policemen. They tried to knock it out with their billy clubs....it took a few good whacks to subdue it, but it was still honkin' when they shut the trunk on it. Probably some sybolism there, too. :-)
