First woman player for world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band

Cornet player Laura Hirst has made the biggest noise in the proud history of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band.

She has blown away 130 years of tradition by becoming the first female full-time member.

Laura, 27, had impressed the brass band so much the men knew it was finally time to change their tune.

She said: “It is a massive compliment to be asked to be the first female. It’s definitely an honour.
