The Charles deGaullle has beenout much in operations in support of annti-piracy and Afghanistan. Just because it is "nearer" doesnt not excuse the government from cutting out carriers like HMS Ark Royal so quickly. Even the Americans used a carrier assault ship with surprise! Harriers in enforcing the NFZ
