What does this mean, glassing in the face, (from a rugby coverage site "found guilty of glassing his American girlfriend in the face")

1. Very nasty stuff

Smashing the rim of a glass against a table or something hard then using the stump, consisting of the base and attached jagged shards as a weapon.

If he really did this I hope he will never play another game nor see the light of day for a long time. I will never understand why macho sports guys seem to get away with way way more than other people except for financial criminals.
