Although we have a long history of taking the mickey out of each other, you know we think of you as cousins, and we are all devastated by the second earthquake in Christchurch. It must be absolutely terrifying, and if any of you check in here, please accept my sympathy and condolences for any of you directly affected. I hope this will be the end of it all, so you can go about the rebuilding of the city and your lives without fear.

Actually, I was just heading over here to say a huge thanks to the Aussies for all the aid you've sent and offered: It's already been a huge help.
I've just heard one of the Australians caught up in the quake hasn't made it. :( Hopefully there'll be better news for the others.

...except I think the relationship is more like one of siblings than of cousins...
I hope any family and friends you might have in Christchurch are safe, DP. It's been heartbreaking seeing some of the stuff coming out of there, and my heart goes out to everyone who's been affected by the quake...

As has been said, your USAR guys were the first here - within 24 hours!
Also the police (sworn in here the same as the local cops) have been a huge help protecting properties from looters (yes we've had a few!) and helping people and all the services with professionalism and compassion.
When the going gets tough, that old ANZAC spirit is still there.
We are surely glad it is.
