Bush/Cheney sticker on Downer's car |
|
I know it probably shouldn't shock me so much, but the Australian Magazine this weekend mentions in passing that Alexander Downer's car has a Bush/Cheney campaign sticker on it.
Obviously he is entitled to his views but the foreign minister of one country publically displaying his views about who he hopes will be elected in another country is a bit inappropriate.
The political centre in Australia is way to the left of that in the US, so in lining up with the Republican party it shows how far the Liberal party has moved to the right.
I consider myself pretty middle of the road in Australian politics, but in US politics I find my views line up solidly with the centre-left of the Democratic party. By supporting Republicans, the Liberal party here does themself no favours.

An inappropriate foreign minister, an inappropriate politician, and an inappropriate human being.
