For anyone living in the Canberra area - Robert Fisk talk... |

I suspect I'm the only DUer from round these parts, but just in case there's any lurkers, here's an email I got:

Robert Fisk has been the Middle East correspondent for The Independent since 1988 and a resident of the Middle East for 28 years. He is in Australia to deliver the inaugural Edward Said Memorial Lecture at Adelaide University.
This is likely to be a VERY popular Lecture and it is recommended that you call the enquiries number below on Tuesday, and/or arrive early to secure a seat.
WHEN: Tuesday 4 October at 6pm WHERE: Coombs Lecture Theatre, Fellows Road, ANU SUPPORTED BY: Centre For Arab & Islamic Studies ENQUIRIES: 6125 4982

Not summer yet, though. Last week I was still scraping ice off my windscreen in the morning, but this is Canberra, so long and bitterly cold winters and shorter and stinky hot summers are the norm. One of the few good things about here are that folk like Robert Fisk and Ilan Pappe (last year) turn up and speak at the uni....
But the Dandy Warhols aren't coming to Canberra next month (I have to go to Sydney to see them), and given a choice between Robert Fisk and them, the Dandy Warhols win hands-down. Canberra kind of sucks like that....

Canberra is only about 3 hours or so from Sydney. It sits in a bit of a valley though and I guess it's highish because it does seem to get really cold there. Its quite nice in it's own sort of way but it needs some redevelopment especially in the centre and mall.
