when about the only thing out there was the Black Box Voting book. They may not have a paper trail, but on the other hand they seem pretty hard to hack.

Common sense, whether it be optical scanned or otherwise the ballots must always be hand counted by the people before the paper ballots LEAVE THE POLLING PLACE its Common F-ck-ng Sense.
Everyone knows this.

The paper record of the tally, in triplicate, is rechecked later but ultimately it has to agree with the election night tally or there has to be a damn good reason why it doesn't.
