"86"ing our votes? Why doesn't www.866ourvote.org work? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 09:20 AM by Fly by night
This morning, I tried to call into 1-866-OUR VOTE to determine whether it would be possible to obtain real-time reports on voting problems here in Tennessee so we could get our local lawyers on the case. After trying to speak to a human, being put on hold and then being referred (via a recorded message) to their web-site, I tried to go there.
The result? My browser crashed five times in a row and I was never able to reach the web-site.
Perhaps the problem is with my backwoods internets access. However, I've never had a similar problem trying to access any other web-site on-line. So I'm wondering what's up with this.
If any of you are able to get through to this web-site, please let me know if they are posting reported problems by state on the site. If you also can't reach it, let me know.
BTW, I hope whoever set up the toll-free hot-line was unaware of the irony of "86"ing our votes. Here's the definition of the slang term "86":
1. To refuse to serve (an unwelcome customer) at a bar or restaurant. 2. To throw out; eject. 3. To throw away; discard.
Edit to say I've tried five more times with the same result -- browser crashes every time.

At least not in real time. The site is set up so that they can pass along breaking news as they wish.

... I have made three calls to the hot-line to see if information on state-specific calls can be obtained now in order to address the problems while the election is unfolding (rather than after the fact). Outcomes:
Call #1 -- someone answered, said "good afternoon" (it was 9:30 am Eastern time) and then hung up.
Call #2 -- I spoke with a real person who said she would have someone call me back shortly.
Call #3 -- Five hours later, I spoke with another someone. She would have their lawyer (WTF?) call me back right away.
Five hours after that third call, I remain unanswered.
For an organization that intends to document the 2008 election fraud opera for the nation (using a phone number we are all hyping), these folks don't appear to have their sand together.
I am concerned ....

If you're using Explorer, maybe you need to update it?
