Quick-Where can I tell people to check to find out whether |
|
their votes are most likely to be counted on election day, or if they early vote, or if the vote by absentee (if they're eligible)?
I know it varies from place to place; e.g., in my county, if you vote early, it's 100% electronic with no paper whatsoever, whereas if you vote on election day, the votes are tabulated electronically but at least there's a paper ballot that could theoretically be of use in an audit.
Any advice re- a reliable org. or other general authority I can refer people to re- their own jurisdictions?

NOT whether someone can vote, or where they can vote, or when they can vote.
My question is, if someone lives in X County, and they have the option of voting EITHER on Election Day, or early, or perhaps by absentee, where should I tell them to check to try to find out which of those alternatives might most likely result in their vote being counted?
For example, in the county I live in, ALL early voting is entirely electronic, without any written record whatsoever. In contrast, on Election Day, many polling places in my county will use machines that generate a written ballot. Still not ideal, since unfortunately they'll be tabulated electronically; but at least there's a theoretical possibility for a recount or meaningful audit. So in my particular county, it's better to vote on Election Day, given the choice.
I'm trying to help make people aware of this aspect of the problem and suggest what they should do. So my question is, is there any centralized source of info about the recommendations for different locations?
Hope that clarifies.
