ANNAPOLIS — On the heels of Marylanders approving an amendment to the state constitution to allow people to cast ballots before election day, a state legislator has proposed another amendment that would allow voters to register at the polls on Election Day.
Delegate Kirill Reznik, D-Montgomery, has drafted a bill that would give voters the option of Election Day registration with the goal of increasing voter participation.
Currently, local boards of elections must receive voters’ applications 21 days before Election Day to register them.
Reznik said none of the reasons for missing the voter registration deadline should result in losing the ability to vote.
“Too busy, too lazy — whatever it may be, none of it justifies to me taking away people’s right to vote,” Reznik said.
