Which Past Election Debacle Most Resembles New York's 2009 E-Vote-Counting 'PILOT?'

Many of the worst elements of past elections seem to be emerging in NY this year. Which of these blasts from the past do you think most resembles the Empire State's failing experiment with electronic vote-counting?

In contrast to the NY CD-20 special election held on lever machines this year, the CD-23 scanner madness is really pissing a lot of people off, even though CD-23 was not nearly as close as CD-20.

A voting system only works when the losers and their supporters are convinced they lost fair and square. This just isn't possible with computers, or the kind of slipshod procedures being developed in NY -- and apparently violated too -- to handle paper ballots.

2. The NY 23 reminds me very much of Gaston County North Carolina in 2004

The number of ballots cast did not match the number of voters in any polling place.
Some had too many, some too few.

The election director also forgot to upload about 12,000 votes, and those went
uncounted for days after the election, until Howard Scripps News service
called the SBoE and inquired about the obvious gap.

Then, it was learned that the Diebold technician (Jane) was on site to run the
election from the main office, and ultimately, she had to transmit vote data to
Diebold's home office and let them "fix" the election.

The Director didn't really know how to run such an automated election.
There were no paper ballots to recount.

The Director resigned, the SBOE wrote Diebold and asked if their voting machines always
required so much technical assistance, also they made Diebold refund a several thousand $ overcharge.

Not long after that, there was a flood in the basement where the voting machines were stored
and they were damaged.

Until they got a regular election director and new optical scan machines, M100s, not the fancy
stuff out now, they counted the elections by hand.
