Is anyone reading "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini? |
|
I'm reading it aloud to my wife. Beautifully written novel that's being made into a movie.
Note: I've been reading aloud to my wife since we married 25+ years ago. Try it sometime. It really makes reading into a different experience.

2. I read the book last winter and loved it... |
|
but would have enjoyed it so much more if my husband read it to me.
Years ago...I read "The Bridges of Madison County" to my spouse. Very sappy book, but fun to read out loud.

6. Well, it gives me a chance to display my talent for accents. |

Having grown up with an Irish grandmother's brogue, her daughters' (my mother and aunts) English accents, and my father's Arkansas drawl, they come easy to me.
Some other's I've read to her include "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina". Both took months of enjoyable reading and convinced me that Tolstoy deserves the title of "Greatest Novelist".

4. I thought it was a spectacularly good book. |
|
Hosseini was supposed to have another book out--I thought during this past year--but something must have delayed it. When I checked his website a while back there was no mention of the second book. What a disappointment! Another great read-aloud is Shadow of the Wind. You will find several comments from DUers in the Fiction group.

10. ok i loved this book but by far the first part was best |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 08:25 PM by pitohui
the part of the book up to and including where he learns the truth about his family that we readers already suspect but our hero doesn't (i hope that is circuitous enough to avoid spoiling) -- that is the best -- very atmospheric, a picture is painted with words
the last part of the book to my mind just a tad too much coincidence and action/adventure
it reads toward the end like someone had an eye toward selling a screenplay and it brought me out of the story some
but i would definitely recommend it and look for others by this author

12. Liked it, didn't love it |
|
and there was definitely a falling off of quality near the end - as if he raced to finish it, after having the beginning planned for years.
