Anybody read LETTERS TO MONTGOMERY CLIFT by Noel Alumit?

There's an eerie beauty to it, even when the most mundane things are being discussed or described, and there's a plot device revealed late in the book that just blew me away.

1. Thanks for the heads up.

I was not aware of it but will check it out. He was (is) such a legend. In that scene in "From Here To Eternity" where he and Burt Lancaster sat drunk in the middle of the road, Monty allegedly really was blasted out of his skull. When he told Burt Lancaster's character, Sgt. Warden, that he couldn't get up out of the road, that wasn't acting. Monty really was blitzed! What a guy! Blasted out of his skull and still did a stellar job! Here's to you, Monty! :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

2. Clift was something else all right. I didn't know about that scene,

but it gives me Clift in just the way I kind of picture him.

Definitely a risk-taker. And probably way ahead of his time in a lot of ways, on and off screen.

"From Here To Eternity" and "Red River."

A great actor who departed way too soon.....

4. Yes. I'm coming to an awareness of him too late. I didn't appreciate him

in those films until only recently.

I was struck by the ferocity of praise he received from Elizabeth Taylor. To her great credit, she has always had very demanding standards for others' personhood. By all counts Clift met all criteria.
