I've discovered W. E. B. Griffin

All these years reading military books (fiction and non fiction) and I never read Griffin until recently. I've started his series on the Philadelphia Police Department. Very interesting story structure.

1. My Pop was a Philly cop in the sixties.

He knows the 'best detective on the East Coast' referred to in the WEB Griffin series. The Black detective was known for his ability. The series itself was excellent and the events described mimic reality. Good stuff. So was his 'Brotherhood of War' series.

2. I grew up in North Philly

in the 60's (till 66). We lived six blocks from Connie Mack Stadium. I used to get into Phillies games free after the third inning.

3. I have the whole series from "The Lieutenant"

The captains, the Majors, The colonels, The Generals, if you want write me and I'll send them to you. they are 99.44% accurate, Hell of a writer

You really do get to know the characters, huh?

4. From Nawth Philly to Loo-Si-Anna?

That's going from a whole lotta bricks and concrete to a whole lotta water! My BIL also lived adjacent to Connie Mack and has fond memories of free entries and friendly cops.

BTW, that is a cool name, Dukes of Hazzard notwithstanding!

7. I was a Navy Brat

and then I joined myself; I've been meandering for years but am somewhat settled down now. My Mom was from Philly and my Dad was stationed there when I was little. The name is related to my Navy Days. I recall putting the kitchen chairs out in front of our house to rent the space during Phillies games

8. he's a good writer. I have only read a few but my late FIL got

quite addicted to them. He was a Marine Corp lifer and really loved them, so I take that as a good reference.

9. I've found his work to be very real and sympathetic

to his characters. I was born and spent my formative years in Philly so the cop books about Philly in the early 70's are very interesting to me. I hope your father in law is continuing to enjoy the latest works as he peruses from above. You'd be hard pressed to get a straighter answer from anyone then a Marine Corps Lifer. I did my time in the Navy, but If I knew at 18 what I knew at 50 I would have joined the Marine Corps instead, but no regrets on my part.
