The Last Town On Earth

by Thomas Mullen. Anyone reading it? I've got about 100 pages to go and cannot put it down. A novel based on some historical facts like The IWW (go Wobblies!) and the Spanish Influenza outbreak of 1917-1918.
I am having a terrific time reading it. I only hope the ending is as good as the rest of the book. You're really drawn into the characters/situations and you ask yourself, What would I have done in that situation? No easy answers, that's for sure. Hope you like it if you try it.

1. Thanks for the recommendation. I learn more about history from historical

novels than I ever did in school.

My mom's mother died in the flu outbreak -- I can't imagine what living during that time would have been like.

2. I just finished it and loved it!!! Many parrallels to today's political environment

The main plot dealing with influenza and the moral struggle of protecting your own vs. participating in the greater society was riveting. The subplot was really interesting and timely as well.

4. Beautifully written and a mesmerizing read.....I thought about suggesting it to the DU Book Club....

but that project never got off the ground......

I learned a lot about the labor and the anti-war movements of the early 1900's.
