1. Not bad, but not great. |
|
I read it about a year ago, so I'm a little hazy on the details, but I do remember that the "leader" of the "infected" (sorry, can't remember what they were called) scared the crap out of me. King can create some scary ass villians.

4. I kept picturing Michael Jackson for some reason |
|
How did you feel about the ending? Do you remember it? It ended with him trying to reboot his son, and it just ended? On a cliff hanger? Does King do that alot?

17. no he doesn't usually end things like that |
|
i read it as the father was mad from grief in this hope of rebooting the child, since human brains can't be rebooted and in our hearts we know the son is lost, but king doesn't like to gawk when children are forever lost or damaged -- one of the reasons he tried to fight to stop "pet cemetary" from being published
so i took it as a sad ending but it can certainly be read either way or just accepted as something to wonder about

Not his best, but he was pissed at cell phones when he wrote it.

5. I thought maybe it was a little Katrina inspired |
|
He started it in Dec of 2004. he mentioned Katrina a couple of times, and it was end of the world disaster chaos.

but better than some - i read it thinking it was written to be made into a movie
On that note - his short story "the mist" is now a movie due out on Nov 21 - looks pretty good - THAT was a good read

6. Directed by Frank Darabont who did Shawshank and Green Mile |
|
I'm intrigued.
And apparently Cell had been set up but hasn't been cast yet.

8. It was alright. Didn't stick with me though. |

Started off pretty intense, but it seemed like he went on auto pilot or somewhere after the midway point.

9. I really liked the 3 main characters |
|
So even tho it dropped in intensity, I wanted to know what was going to happen to them.

11. You know I think the best potential movie from a King book that hasn't been made yet... |
|

Would be "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon."
Pretty intense. And like King's better print to screen adaptations...not supernatural.
I guess the problem would be finding a child actress with the chops to take on the role where she's pretty much the sole player.

12. I thought it was one of his best from his more recent phase |
|
I also agree with the poster above who liked "Tom Gordon". That was also well done. I think "Cell" held up well until the final bus trip, then it kind of ran towards a happy ending. It is an interesting concept, though. I wonder if something like the "mind erasure" has already happened to Faux viewers....
I have to say I hated his last book, the one on the mentally damaged murderer. I could see the ending almost from the start and I really dislike books that do that.

13. I am about 80% through it right now (spoilers inside) |
|
I have only read a couple of his books, the only one that comes to mind right now is the Green Mile series, but Cell is an entertaining read.
Right now I am at the point where they have been brought up to the KASHAK = NO FO area and it is the night before the execution or whatever is supposed to happen. Clay has just realized why the guy gave him the cell phone and then killed himself and it looks like they are going to use the bus as a bomb to blow up the flock of phoners.
And the main phoner has been called either the President of Harvard or The Raggedy Man.

When Alice died. I was really bummed out. If I saw that in a movie I'd be sobbing probably.

The Head, I was OK with him killing himself in his sleep so that the group could move on but it was pretty harsh that the phoners made him jam the pen into his eye.
