I found four Daphne Du Maurer books at Goodwill |
|
I read her books when I was very young ( a LONG time ago) and I had forgotten what a good writer she is .
I am re-reading My Cousin Rachel.
next--
"Last night I dreamed of Manderley again" (Rebecca)
The other two found are Frenchmans Creek and Jamacia Inn.

1. Memories! I must have read 'Rebecca' 4 times as a kid, and loved |
|
it. Now I need to read it again after all these years.

2. Jamaica Inn. Never read it, but didn't Hitchcock make it into a movie? |

5. She was a favorite author of mine as a kid, too |
|
I read "Rebecca" several times (and saw the movie over and over again), and "My Cousin Rachel" a couple of times too. I don't remember "Frenchman's Creek" and "Jamacia Inn" that well. What fond memories, though.
Good find at the Goodwill! Some real treasures.

8. Best first line of a novel. |
|
Need to add her books to my never-ending list of books to find and reread. Also liked Jamaica Inn, but then read another of her books, Scapegoat (just looked it up on Amazon to find the title), and was disappointed. Maybe I was too young (then) to appreciate it, might give it another try.

9. I have discovered eBay for old favorites. |
|
My sister bought Georgette Heyers and I bought Joan Smiths. Comfort reading for hard times.

10. Another great source is half.com |
|
(now owned by Ebay, but separate). It's a great source for used and overstock books. I've bought dozens of wonderful cookbooks (and other books) from half.com sellers, never been disappointed. Plus their shipping charges are lower than either Amazon or Ebay sellers.

I reread them last year for the first time in a decade, and thought the same.

12. Has anyone read House on the Strand? A friend just loaned it |
|
to me and said it was her favorite of Daphne DuMaurier's books. I haven't started it because I need to find a copy with larger print.

13. Yeah, I read that in high school. |
|
I have good memories of it (and have no intention of giving away any of the plot). I hope you find a readable copy!
