"The Colorado Kid" by Stephen King. SPOILERS. |
|
I listened to it on audiobook by Recorded Books over the holidays. I recommend this version of it; the narrator does an entertaining Maine accent for the two older men who are major characters.
I was disappointed that it was never revealed whodunit, or why. The Russian coin found on the CO kid implied that it had something to do with the Cold War.
One thing I'm not clear about, was the meat the Kid choked on laced with a muscle relaxer that caused him to choke? That was discussed but I'm not clear about the verdict.
Any thoughts?

The story indicates that they would have found the muscle relaxer during the autopsy and even if it were non detectable, the two old newspaper guys didn't think there was any evidence of it.
At the end of the book, Stephen writes that he knows the story will piss people off because it has no satisfactory conclusion. The entire premise is that it's a "mystery"...that no one knows what happened, that there is a story but not really a story. I would love to hear the audiobook.
