Just watched RING OF BRIGHT WATER on DVD **SPOILERS** |
|
It was an OK movie, nothing to write home about, but pleasant.
It really bothered me when the man killed the otter. I read the book too, and it really bothered me that little Mij was killed. To me it was as if he'd been murdered.
Anybody else have similar feelings?

Are you talking about the movie which is more than thirty years old?
I think, if it was meant for children, the ending was a bit harsh. Like ending Bambi the way it began. By killing off his mother.
And, no. I didn't get the impression it was murder. Farmers think they're rodents.

I didn't realize farmers thought of otters that way.

3. A poor choice of words. |

They do compete with farm fisheries. I don't remember the way the story went, but there was something about them that annoyed the town people. And not them in particular. Just otters in general. Though, anything wild would have been suspect because of the potential to carry disease.

5. I watched it way back with my 6 yr old. It was evening, we were tired, but wanted to finish |

the movie since it was so sweet. Then WHAW!!! Tears and sobs and "you made me watch that" and more tears and sobs. The ending was very much "a bit harsh". At least the book carried on after that, not ending so abruptly.
